Summer is here and we don't need to find an excuse to play in the water. But we can do some learning as we play!

We are going to make various types of boats with different shapes, sizes, materials, and kinds! Its fun to build them and learn on how they work, function, what happens if etc!!

1. Paper Boats

I grow up making these and are the most basic type of boats you can make. These are the easiest and the quickest!

Things you need :

1. Paper

2. Bucket

3. Water

Here is a video we used to make the boats. We have a bit of commute in the morning and so not only did we make the boats but we also colored them during the commute to keep the toddler occupied :)

We then floated them in the water, as it was paper then boats eventually sunk in the water. Toddler S had fun just messing in the water, submerging the boat even more and then squeezing the water out!😜

We talked about a variety of things :

1. Paper soaks water

2. It was light at first so it floated on the water

3. After getting soaked got heavy and sunk in the water

Commute : Painting the boats

2. Cork Boats

It's been very interesting for toddler S to explore what floats on water, what doesn't , what gets wet, what doesnt....

We thought of building a boat again but with something that wouldn't soak water. Corks seemed like a good and also quickie project of its own to build a boat.

We talked and experimented on : Wind effect: we blew some air to create a wind effect and see how that changed the directions that the boat was going.

Waves : we stirred up water to create waves and saw that changed the boat directions as well.

Things you need: 1. 3 corks 2. 2 rubber bands 3. Tooth picks 4. Paper for flags 5. Scissors to cut the flag 6. Bucket 7. Water

Hold the 3 corks together, add the rubber bands. Cut the flags, put them through the toothpicks and TAADA!

3. Submarines

Making various boats with Toddler S series continues. From past boats making exercises, it seemed like Toddler S was very curious to exploring what would it be like to have a boat that submerges in the water. We also recently read a book on submarines and so we decided to make our very own version of it.

All you really need is: 1. Used plastic bottle 2. Some type of stick or straw as a periscope 3. Some rubber bands

We tied the wooden stick to the bottle with a rubber band. With the bottle cap on, we placed the bottle on water and it floated.

Then we tried to fill up the bottle with water little by little until it was completely full (without any bubbles. Mommy had to help take out all the bubbles) and then placed it on water. The boat did not stay floating but got submerged and TADA! - we had our own little Submarine!!

When we emptied the water the boat floates on water again!

Stay tuned as we explore more on our boating adventure!
